Craig has participated in and managed teams on a range of computer forensic and electronic discovery engagements with law firms and government departments throughout Oceania. Craig’s work with these engagements includes the following:

Identification and preservation of evidence in large corporations under the restriction of business continuity, legal professional privilege and privacy concerns.
Co-ordination and execution of Search Orders (‘Anton Piller Orders’) in single and multiple locations.
Management of electronic assets in publicly listed corporate recoveries.
Development of protocols for identification and exclusion of documents subject to legal professional privilege, privacy or relevancy claim from forensically preserved electronic data.
Assistance in drafting documentation for successful court applications and orders involving electronic information; and giving evidence in court.

Craig has also been involved in investigations of fraud and improper conduct in particular using computers and the data stored on them. He has developed a specialty in interrogating various accounting, ERP and custom systems:

Reconstruction of business records from maliciously damaged data.
Implementation of fraud detection, continuous transaction and control monitoring frameworks.
Consolidation, normalisation (making consistent) and subsequent analysis of disparately stored databases and electronic information.
Programming the automatic collection of suspicious transactions within accounting systems.

Craig has guest lectured for University of Melbourne on IT Forensics, and has been engaged to develop and present subjects for the Masters and Graduate Certificate courses. He has also presented papers to numerous legal firms and the Commercial Bar Association of Victoria. He has joint authored a number of articles published in various industry journals including the international ‘Fraud Magazine’, ‘Australian Law Management Journal’ and ‘Australian Insolvency Journal’.

Significant Engagements

Acohs Pty Ltd v Ucorp Pty Ltd [2010] FCA 577 – Expert report(s) and testimony regarding the plagiarism of website content. Involved significant analysis of programing source code and handling of the electronic evidence.
Boyapati v Rockefeller Management Corporation [2008] FCA 995 – Involved in giving expert report and testimony regarding the plagiarism of medical exam questions.
CarePark Pty Ltd v Hui Ma Australia Investment Co Pty Ltd & Anor (District Court of South Australia No. 634 of 2008) – Expert report and analysis of file-system and application metadata (for example document created, last modified, last accessed dates).
Dorajay Pty Limited v Aristocrat Leisure Limited – Involved in presenting expert evidence which dealt with how data is stored on electronic media and the subsequent recovery of that data if the storage device is damage or the data is corrupted.
Commonwealth Bank of Australia Ltd v International All Sports Ltd – Dealing with complex electronic data issues as part of discovery both at civil and criminal level.
