"To be honest, I joined KordaMentha by chance rather than choice. I had left the professional services industry for a while and was out of touch at that time. Looking back, I guess I was at the right place at the right time. More than two years ago, I was looking at doing something different having spent the last ten years or so in the hospitality industry and before that in audit. The going was good but I just needed a change. Change was what I experienced when I joined KordaMentha.
What I liked about the firm was its emphasis on delivering high quality work and excellent service to its customers but not forgetting the needs of its employees by also stressing on having a good work life balance.
When I was first employed by KordaMentha, I joined the Corporate Recovery Services team. The experience was new to me and I enjoyed the variety in the nature of each and every assignment. The assignments ranged from debt restructuring to cash/financial statements’ review to liquidation assignments. My next stop was at Forensics. What I liked about forensic work is the ability to put into practice my interest in and knowledge of the capital markets and to hone my skills to become more observant and logical in my thinking. In the area of dispute resolution, I have been involved in the preparation of Expert Reports and assisting the expert prepare for his expert testimony. The expert related assignments I have worked on include a claim for wrongful selling of share on margin trading, valuation of stock options and analysis of trades (including derivatives) for potential mishandling of clients’ investments either on the side of the bank or its customer. I have also worked on background checks and asset tracing assignments usually involving divorce cases.
I had much to learn during this period and was grateful to my bosses that I was able to learn much especially in the area of expert report writing, forensic analysis work and how to trace assets.
I have seen myself progressing in the firm. Nevertheless, I have not stopped learning and growing by working in the firm and believe I will continue to do so. I now realise I have grown to like the firm I did not know much about when I first joined by 'chance'."
